May 13, 2021

Mfume cautions witness against evading the truth under oath and to answer the questions related to meeting with Donald Trump prior to January 6 insurrection

WASHINGTON --Today Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) and other members of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform Committee held a hearing on "The Capitol Insurrection: Unexplained Delays and Unanswered Questions" where three witnesses provided testimony: Chief of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, Robert Contee; and two Cabinet heads from the Trump Administration – former acting secretary of defense Christopher Miller and former acting attorney general Jeffrey Rosen.

In a notable exchange with former acting attorney general Rosen, Congressman Mfume highlighted the need for the Committee and Congress to know the truth about what the Trump administration knew in the days leading up to January 6 and what they are willing to disclose about the days after. Mfume, a member of the "Continuity in Government Commission" to examine the 9/11 attack, noted that truth is the only way to protect our democracy from similar acts and similar actors going forward.
