Congressional App Challenge

Each year a nation-wide middle and high school coding and computer science challenge is hosted by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional App Challenge sponsored by the Internet Education Foundation is a way for Members of Congress to encourage middle and high school students to learn to code and to inspire them to pursue careers in computer science.

Middle and high school students have the opportunity to create and submit their original apps as individuals or in teams of up to four for a chance to win the Challenge. The winning student or team will have their app displayed in the U.S. Capitol and on the U.S. House of Representatives official website. Additionally, the winning student(s) will have copyright registration application fees waived through the Artistic Recognition for Talented Students (ARTS) Act. The student(s) will also be invited to the #HouseOfCode Celebration.

The 2025 Challenge Rules can be found here:

Apps will be submitted digitally and students should follow the instructions on the above Rules.

Our Office would also like to share information about the participating students and their submissions via social media and our official website. If you are comfortable and willing to have your information shared please complete our Student Media Release Form and send it to our App Challenge Staff Member whose information is below. Please note that for students under the age of 18 a parent or legal guardian must complete the form.

All app submissions must be received by the Office of Congressman Kweisi Mfume by October 30, 2025. For questions or concerns please contact Katelyn Laughman at Katelyn.Laughman@mail.house.gov or (410) 685-9199.
