WASHINGTON–– Today, Congressman Kweisi Mfume of Maryland (MD-07) released the following statement about the passage of H.J. Res. 17 – Removing The Deadline For The Ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and H.R. 1620 – Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act Of 2021.
"From the fight for civil rights to groundbreaking inventions, women make innumerable contributions to every sector of our society. We stand on the shoulders of the women who marched before us and blazed a trail toward equality. In reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act and striking the outdated deadline for the ERA, the House reaffirmed its commitment to the dignity, respect, and equal treatment of all – women and men alike. Tomorrow and every day going forward, we must work to ensure our mothers, sisters, daughters, and others experience nothing less than full rights and equal protection under the law."
