WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) issued the following statement after signing onto the articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem introduced by Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02):
"Homeland Security Secretary Noem's actions in the months leading up to and the days following the killing of Renee Good, an American citizen, constitute a serious abuse of authority. She has obstructed Congress's constitutional oversight of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities used for detention in Baltimore and elsewhere, and has violated the public trust," said Congressman Kweisi Mfume.
"Today, I have signed onto articles of impeachment against Secretary Noem to initiate the constitutional impeachment process to hold her accountable for her actions. She has failed to lead and has lost the trust of everyday fair-minded Americans," he concluded.
