Today, Congressman Kweisi Mfume sent a letter to Acting Director Tae Johnson of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement expressing concern over the safety and well-being of Ms. Pauline Binam, a resident of the Congressman's District and DREAMER of Cameroonian descent, who faces the possibility of deportation as early as tomorrow when she reports to ICE for a check-in. The letter also asked to stay any potential deportation of Ms. Binam pending further investigation of any claims of retaliation against Ms. Binam for assertions of abuse and misconduct made by her against the agency while she was previously in its custody. A copy of the Congressman Mfume letter can be found here.
Statement by Congressman Kweisi Mfume
"My Office has been in communication with the advocates for Ms. Pauline Binam since last year, when we helped to avert her deportation from a Texas ICE facility. The facts surrounding her detention and her time in custody require a full investigation before taking any action to remove her from American soil," said Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07).
